Age:

Sex:

Male

Weight:

45 lbs

Rockwell is a nervous but sweet dog available for adoption. He was given a medical behavior rating of 2 on intake, indicating he is a bit shy and requires a patient and understanding adopter. Rockwell came in as a stray and was found to have mild dental tartar, old healing fly strikes on his ears, and a limp in his left front leg, which was later diagnosed as a fracture of the radius/ulna through X-rays. He is currently recovering with a splint and bandage, which will need to be changed weekly. A follow-up X-ray is required in 6 weeks to monitor his healing progress. Additionally, Rockwell has been observed coughing and showing nasal discharge, but he is stable and can be adopted out with a health waiver. He would do best in a quiet home with an adopter who can provide the care he needs as he heals.

Meet Kane, Kane Is ADULTS ONLY REQUIRED. Kane has a medium energy level and large calm dogs are recommended. Kane would benefit best from continued training in socialization.

During playgroup assessment once Kane was in the catch pen Kane was collared and leashed without incident. The runner used a slow approach as Kane appeared slightly tense and uncomfortable. Kane greeted the dogs at the barrier nicely and appeared eager to enter the yard. Once in the play yard Kane exchanged greetings with a neutral demeanor. A few of the more confident and playful dogs approached him suddenly. Kane began to run away from them and flashed his teeth at them. The other dogs were steered away by the handlers and Kane recovered quickly. He continued to explore the play yard sniffing and marking various locations. Kane appeared more at ease around the calm gentle dainty dogs. He roamed the yard with a few of them and would also approach the handler for petting. As he continued to socialize one of the dogs gave Kane a few playful pounces. Kane appeared interested and they began to play together. A few more dogs joined, and they engaged in play chase. Kane continued to play nicely for some time, he disengaged with the group and continued to roam the play yard. Kane maintained a relaxed and social demeanor with a gentle dainty play style. See additional assessment for placement recommendations.

During handling assessment Kane was in the play yard prior to the assessment and was given time to decompress. Kane displayed a relaxed body, open mouth pant, natural ear set, a relaxed tail with a soft wag, and soft eyes. The handler called to Kane, and he approached allowing the handler to pet him. Kane leaned into the handler’s touch and solicited further petting. The handler was able to examine Kane’s ears, mouth, and front paws without incident. When the handler palpated Kane’s front left leg, he became slightly tense, and side eyed the handler but tolerated it. The handler proceeded to palpate Kane’s abdomen, back, hind legs, and tail. When palpating Kane’s right hind leg, he again became tense, and side eyed the handler but tolerated the exam. Kane tolerated the handler’s exam but appeared uncomfortable with his left front and right rear limbs. Kane is ok for public adoption adults only required at this time medium energy level calm dogs recommended..
